Whats the weirdest thing your chickens have eaten or tried to eat??

Deer bones. As a hunter, there are always bones available that the dog or local wildlife drag around after a successful season. My girls will try to chase the dog off his bone and then try every which way to swallow it. My one hen likes to carry the smaller bones/pieces around like a trophy or to show it off

Thanks for the warning, I will keep my cream puffs hidden in the fridge.:p

Crisis averted this morning! My flock gets 3 slices of cheap white bread every 1-2 days as a treat because it keeps my dad happy (he likes to throw it to them off of the deck. Chicken TV on demand!) Well, I slept in with a headache this morning, so I didn’t get out to the pen until10am, so I brought them some bread to say I’m sorry for being late. Keep in mind, this is NOTHING NEW, they have had 3 slices of bread a day ever since we moved in early December, without incident. Today, my red Marans hen Layla grabbed up the crust after the others had eaten out the white part and scarfed it down lengthwise like spaghetti. No sooner had I shouted at her,“ Layla, you’re gonna choke!” than she snatched ANOTHER crust and did the same thing!! She did indeed choke and I brought her in for a Jiffy-quick “lube and oil”. She seems to be recovering. Thank God I was up til 1am reading 41 pages of chicken eating disasters, or I wouldn’t have been watching her. My precious Layla is one of my favorites, pretty, cuddly and kind, and true to her name a wonderful layer. I would have been heartsick to lose her, especially over something as stupid as a crust of bread!:th
What is "lube and oil?" I have only been keeping chickens for 2 years. Mine are like garbage disposals and eat or try to eat everything in sight, but I have never seen one choke.

You force feed her vegetable oil, in the hope that it lubes up her insides and helps her pass what’s hurting her. Gives her diarrhea. It’s not easy, birds HATE it. I used a syringe I got from the vet, 5 or 6 full, probably gave her 1 1/2 oz total.
