Pit bulls- evil. Golden retrievers- BEST DOGS EVER!!! :D:D

Am i the ONLY one who seems to think this isnt true? Its like whenever someone is wanting a dog, their like

Dont get a pitbull! They will kill you! Their bred to kill!! Get a golden retreiver, their great, BEST DOG EVER!!!!

I mean seriously? Pit bulls were bred to attack EACH OTHER, not humans. Why cant people understand this?!! And, golden retrievers arent that good. Honestly, I ate them. OK OK I am biased, but its not because of the people thing- we have Australian Cattle dogs. I will bet you my a** that our female is smarter then your golden retriever. I honestly HATE how golden retrivers are marked worlds smartest breed just because they are most common! We had a pit-bull, sweetest dog you could ever own. True, our Cattle dogs will bite then lick you, but they are eager to please and are abosultely adorable. Our pit bull had endless amounts of energy and would put up with ANYTHING. my mom had to dig through her mouth to try and get out a chicken bone- true, she took her to a vet, but thats only cause she was ancy about digging in her mouth, she had never bit anyone but I'd like to hear you say you'd trust your GR to dig through their mouth w/o biting you.

Post here if you like pitties, (or Australian cattle dogs- i realize me mentioning them was random), and think its kinda, (a nice way to put it) strange how everyone automaically discludes them just because they think that dog breed you see on every commercial and hear about everywhere is better.

Heres my rant, its not meant to offend anyone- if you don't like it, DONT READ IT, I'm sorry if this offends you then smile.png

The difference between pets and pests is only on which side of the fence they're standing... keep your animals in your own property.

Pits weren't bred to fight at all. They were originally bred to hunt wild boar, if I'm not mistaken. THUGS have now unfortunantly begun to breed them to fight each other. It was not their breeding to begin with.

Actually, I have seen more labs who bite than pits. It's just the image that the thugs have now given a once nice breed.

Um. The name of the breed refers to the PIT in which the dog fighting took place. Using this breed for dog fighting is NOT a recent trend. AT all.

No, it's not new, but it's not the reason the breed was developed in the first place.

As an animal shelter volunteer, I can tell you all of the pit bulls I have worked with have been friendly with people, and generally just happy go lucky dogs. It is so sad the large number of pits that end up at the shelter, even sadder is the sheer percent that are put down. I try not to get attached, and when they aren't there the next week, I prefer to imagine they have gone to great homes at last. The shelter I volunteer at has a lower than average kill rate, and this is often the case. I hope we can work to put an end to their bad reputation, and reduce the number of byb's who breed them. There are numerous ill-bred  litters for sale all the time. I just saw some in the paper, 5 and a half weeks old, $300 a piece, and nothing to show for it. No matter what they were originally bred for, they deserve a chance just as much as any other breed.

2 dogs, 3 cats, 17 ducks, 2 geese, 1 turkey, a lot of  chickens, several tropical fish, and 3 goldfish! This is one crazy little farm!

If we are referring to the APBT then yes they were originally bred to bait bulls and I believe bears. Eventually using them for those purposes were outlawed and using them in pits unfortunately became popular. I do believe it has more to do with proper training than the specific breeds. I've been around plenty of various breeds through out my life. I've been around other Wolfdogs, Chows, and APBT but have yet to be bitten my any of them. However, I have been bitten on more than one occasion by Labs, Golden Retrievers, and Poodles.

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?
