I told someone I'd get the name of the new chicken that is a good meat bird and good egg layer with good feed conversion that was developed for third world countries. . Now I can't locate the thread where I promised I'd do it.

Anyway, it is from The biodesign Institute of Arizona State University, and it is called The Kuroiler. I'm going to attempt to post a link

That sounds wonderful! It sounds like a great project.

Can you imagine raising a chicken and getting only 40 eggs per year! That's a whole 3 1/3 eggs per month!

However, they are a hybrid, just like our Cornish X. And if they try to keep them and raise future generations, good chance that they will end up being alot less productive than the first generation and eventially, alot closer to the native chickens.

Thanks for posting it!

The Kuroiler was actually developed by KeggFarms in India. The researcher from ASU is actually looking into the Kuroiler's introduction in Uganda.

I live in Uganda and have recently purchased 5 Kuroiler hens and one cockerel. I, like you, would like to know the egg production and bird weight of offspring. I'll let you know as we continue with the birds.

I purchased the hens from the National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank in Entebbe, and I purchased a cockerel from Makerere's research facility. Makerere doesn't normally sell the birds, but they had them on display at the National Agricultural Show in Jinja and they didn't want to transport them back to Kampala.

As for the cost, you'll need to contact NAGRC. I paid 30,000/= per bird. I overpaid, but I reasoned that they were available, already laying, and would make a nice experiment.

Hi Ugandanbob, can you pse advise where i can get kuroilers. Have tried many places in kampala and havent had much luck.
