I posted yesterday about my six week old chick and someone mentioned cocci but I really don't it is that. She is not eating drinking has been sleeping for 2 days straight yesterday standing up and sleeping with her feathers puffed out today laying down only with her feathers down and weaker then yesterday except today she vomited and it sounds like she is having respitory problems she is breathing out of her mouth only and it sounds all congested :( my other 3 baby chicks are fine playing and chirping! Last night she was chirping really loud all night today nothing at all I feel bad is there anything I can do for her? Medicine I can get at a tack n feed store? I know chickens dont get colds but this seems like one.

Is she underwait. I had a Buff cochin hen that had something blocking off her crop and I couldn't do nothing for her. She died today. It was like this when I bought her. I feel so bad that I didn't realize she was sick until 3 days ago.

Chickens don't get colds.  They get serious respiratory infections, which they may or may not recover from.  You can buy Sulmet for cocci, but one of the main symptoms of that is bloody diarrhea.  Sulmet also treats coryza, but a main symptom of that is a puffy face and a horrible smell.  If it's bronchitis, there is no cure, but you can keep her comfortable in case her immune system decides to fight it, and to keep away secondary infections.  The fact that she is vomiting is not good.  Another thing you can get is Duramycin, which treats bacterial infections. 

 

Mine had bronchitis in April.  The first got it so bad that I had to cull them.  Then I gave the others both Sulmet and Duramycin for 2 days, followed by yogurt for a week.  They all recovered.  However, several of the hens no longer lay good quality eggs, and I don't know if the chicks will ever lay.  They're not at POL yet, so it's the waiting game.  And since chickens can be carriers of bronchitis for life, all that were in the sick group are now on my property forever, until they die.

Chickens: faverolles, australorps, Delaware, barred rock, welsummer, silver laced wyandotte, lavender and buff x wheaten ameraucanas, BLRW, blue and splash andalusian, cochin, exchequer leghorn, silkie, brabanter, minorca, turken, RIR, brahma, speckled sussex...Ducks: two welsh harlequins, two blue swedish...  Two dogs, a snake, two parents and two kids... and food gardens everywhere else.

You are describing Coccidiosis.  If she is now sniffling, she probably has picked up another problem from being run down from the Coccidia.  You need to get Corid and start treating immediately.  You may have waited too long.  You will have to get Corid.  Then, since she is so weak, you will have to dose her.  Using an eyedropper, drip the medicine into the front of her beak.  Just give her the amount you would think she would drink on her own in one sitting.  You will need to do this every 2  - 3 hours until she starts eating and drinking on her own. 

 

Try making a mash out of crumbles, water and yogurt...you should be able to hand fed her this also..make it very runny at first.  Feed her the same way that you are dosing her. 

 

Once the course of Corid is finished, 5 - 7 days, then you will need to get some poly vi sol, without iron, and give her a couple drops per day for a few days to help to rebuild her strength.  Continue with the yogurt or, probiotics of some sort, for the duration of treatment.

I would not use Sulmet...it only kills a couple strains of Coccidia whereas, Corid kills most of them.  Sulmet is an antibiotic and is very hard on their systems.

She is really thin and the smallest of the bunch kind of like the runt I wonder if her lungs arent developing well. I checked her crop and thats fine it isnt sour or compacted. I am just preparing for her to die it really  hurts but I think it might happen I will go to a tack n feed store. Is that where I can get all these medicines?? I have 7 other full grown hens outside and none of them have ever had this. I got 4 new babies and my own is really sick and I feel bad. I dont handle anything I love dying or getting sick. I hope its not to late. At least yesterday she was chirping and standing up but today its like she is struggling to breath and cant even stand or chirp also when she is sleeping she will randomly lift her head and she will have like a seizure or something! Its scary and I only seen her poop once and it was gooey and white and watery

You can get all of this at the feed store...if it's nice and warm, why not take her with you if you are worried?  You can keep an eye on her the entire time.

Went to the tack n feed store where I got the chicks and she said none of her other chicks were sick this was actually her healthiest batch but when I got the chicks at the store they where all outside in the heat with a fan when I bought them I have been keeping them inside where its cold and she said she thinks my chick got immonia or whatever.

My chick passed away in my hands just now after throwing up blood and seizing! But thanks everyone for your help anyways I hope she is in a better place where there is no pain and tons treats and other chickens to play withhit.gif
