Good grief  had to take a look  -  I thought it was a poo quilt  but you really mean a    (Winnie the) POOH  quilt.    Big difference.  I couldn't imagine why anyone would make   a quilt of "poo poos.":lau

You obviously don't know me well.

I don't think your response was too harsh. You weren't rubbing their nose in it or being mean for the sake of being mean. I thought it was informative and firm. I think we need more "reality checks" and less toe the line answers. I also hope that the person responds back in kind, and not with hatred and name calling.

I agree with SCG, I think your response while a bit "tough" was spot on.  Sometimes people don't know what they are trying to purchase and I would bet this person didn't know the breed like you do.  Went through some of this while trying to sell one of my horses and my trailer.  Had someone try to lowball my trailer saying they could get a three horse trailer for the same price as my two horse trailer.  I told them to go buy the three horse trailer and stop bugging me. I sold it for what I thought it was worth.  I do my homework before I list something for sale and while I will usually list it high to give a little wiggle room, I also know the lowest limit I will sell the item for too.

Sadly, I doubt CC's bargain hunter will profit by the education, though you never know, they might.

Some people just shrug and say, "can't hurt to try," so I don't generally get mad at people who try to talk me down on a price, but sometimes it's downright insulting. Like the time when I was running an ad selling rabbits and this guy calls and asks, "how much for all of them - cages, feeders, everything?" "What, my whole herd??" (I wanted to be sure I was hearing him correctly) "Yeah, the whole thing. All of the breeders, and the equipment" I thought for a few seconds. "Two thousand," I said. It would have been a bargain at that price, but this guy had no idea what I had, and I was getting pretty annoyed. "Too much," he said, and disconnected.

Or the lady that called a nursery where my husband worked, and was trying to haggle on the price of some bushes, saying that she could get them at such-and-such a price at another place (were they were little more than rooted cuttings). Exasperated, the nursery owner snapped, "lady, you can't compare plants on the phone!" and hung up (this was in the days before smart phones; nowadays, of course, you can!)

CC, there is a big difference between reality and harshness.  I find nothing harsh in your reply.

@ChickenCanoe  Not too harsh. Very informative and firm without talking down to the enquirer.

Off to work...have a great day every one!  :frow

Have a great day, especially a great Veteran's Day to all of us vets.

If you haven't seen it, 'Saving Private Ryan' just started on AMC about 5 minutes ago.

Another problem with selling so low that you're giving things away, the recipient has no respect for what they got.

Kind of like information. If people have to pay for it, they respect it. If they don't, they won't.

One thing I like is to go the opposite direction if someone tries to haggle too much. Especially if I've already agreed to lower the price. And that "I can get this cheaper somewhere else" bit is just bad negotiating. Only thing you're telling the seller then is that you're an idiot because you're trying to buy it from the more expensive place. With chains I like to use that myself though, because many of them do price matching. Some chains here even have a 30 day price guarantee. I went back 3 weeks after buying a washer-dryer combo and some other stuff, showed them prices from other stores, and got back 200 euros. That was pretty sweet.
