Deworming Goats

I use the horse paste. You don't have to triple the dosage. I usually double it,  but someone told me that tripling it was totally useless.

You're right, safeguard doesn't work in most areas since worms have gotten tolerant to it.

For lactating ones, I think you should use dectomax pour in, but drench them. I usually don't worm my lactating/pregnant ones unless I really have to.

You definitely want to use a "dairy safe" version of whichever dewormer you go with.

No one can answer which brand for you to use, as parasites are highly regional.  Take a fecal into the vet and for a very small price they will tell you exactly which parasites you have and how best to treat them.  You save money in the long run by not overtreating or treating with a dewormer which isnt' effective against what you're dealing with.

We use FRM goat dewormer pellets. Once a month we feed them the dewormer instead of their pellets according to weight. Its much easier and so far has worked for us. Our vet told us this was a good method. Even offered to drop ship us some as hes 70 miles away.

We use the cattle pour on ivermec topically and according to package directions as far as cc's per lb (at about $20 a bottle, it's cheap - the bottle lasts us a very long time).  You have to be aware if you use pour ons that they can cause a skin reaction with goats.  So far, we have one goat who is sensitive to it, so he gets his orally.

You can use the injectable ivermec for cattle and drench it, works great.

Goatkeepers, you should triple the dose of paste ivermec because the digestive system of a goat varies so from that of a horse that the paste is not well absorbed.  According to the vets I've spoken with, it is necessary to do so.

I haven't heard anything good about pelletized dewormers for goats.  In our area, Safe Guard is no longer an effective dewormer, either.

So does that mean if your goat weighs 150 pounds you shoud give the dose for an animal 450 pounds?

Pumpkin seed are a natural wormer...

Wow, really? But how many pumpkin seeds? Do you get them in the fall dry them & store them for use? (since  pumpkins are available at all times of the year).

how effective are pupmkin seeds and will it take care of all types of worms in goats?

I thought food grade DE would work on any animal.maybe not just a thought.
