i had four surviving girls. then i got five chicks to replace some i had lost (to my dog). of the five, four turned out to be roosters. lately, the boys have rushed out of the coop in the morning & stand around the pop door like a gauntlet waiting for the girls to come out. then they rush the girls & give 'em heck for the first several minutes every morning. a lot of screaming, yelling and running. the girls have become reluctant to come out of the coop in the morning.
a friend took two of the roosters (thank goodness), and today was the first day in a long time since my girls have had a peaceful day. one more rooster to go - but i think he's destined for the freezer (even though he is a scrawny guy).
that will leave me with the big black australorp boy and a harmonious flock.
