We are expecting our first coturnix to hatch within the week and are trying to get set up.  I have a couple of questions:

What type of thermometer set up has worked best for you?

We are expecting Texas A&Ms, Goldens, Jumbo Browns and Tibetans.  Can they be raised in the same brooder and coop or do they need to be separated?

Thanks!

I use the cheap digital thermo from wal mart, about 6 bucks and shows humidity too. but you dont really need it in the brooder.... Just put a regular old fashioned light bulb in your heat lamp fixture, I use 60 watt, on top of the wire. On the tote style brooder. If the chicks are piled your cool. if they are sleep'n all around the food bowl, your just right!

you can run them all together in the brooder. It sounds like you bought eggs from a "Mixed pen".... IMHO this is a big red flag that the person you got them from is a enthusiast, not a breeder.... you will never know what colors will be produced. even by their off spring. Its just fine for a meat or pet pen,  but it limits your options down the road. Bottom line is they are all coturnix and will do fine together. Just mutts...Good Luck with your birds! Bill

Thanks for all the tips! We are getting super excited! We are aiming for egg consumption so mutts are fine for us! :) Good to know to be careful in the future, though!
