What are they doing?

My two pekin ducks, Johnny and Baby, tend to wag their tails a lot, why? Is it happiness like a dog? Being annoyed like a cat? A mystery? Also they stand up really tall and shake their wings a little from time to time, why do they do that?D.gif a little like that, but a duck and still in a standing position.

I doubt it's something bad, I'm just a little curious...

my ducks seem to be happy when they wag their tails and it's funny, our dog runs up to the fence and barks and they almost seem to bark back at her...they turn to face her and open their beaks like they're going to let out this big roar!

I thought so at first but they mostly do it when something they like happens. Like jumping into their pool, being given tomato, stuff like that I'm starting to wonder if it's maybe excitement.

I call it the "I'm okay" wing flap.  My runners do it when they get outdoors in the morning, after I have held them or medicated them, after a scary encounter and things have settled down, or just to let the world know, hey, I am okay.

They wag their tails when they are content, which is often.

Nine beautiful Runners, four beautiful Buffs, thousands of beautiful memories and counting.

Looking for ducks?  Please consider adopting rescued ducks.  There are many places and people who do rescues, but we are not allowed to post the links due to BYC regs.  So fire up your web browsers and find some sweet, grateful duckies.
