Up until this last week this was Lily. Lily was, I was assured, a pullet when I bought her. Then she molted and became.....TA DA! Larry Bird! Complete with hackle and pointy saddle feathers, not to mention little spurs coming in. Larry is approximately 18 weeks old and like our Buff O rooster, kept pullet feathering until he went through a molt. I badly wanted a Lavender Orpington pullet for our flock and got this one about 10 weeks ago. The breeder checked it regularly and he even had them fooled, except he had and still has such HUGE legs and feet. We were hoping it was just a big girl but then those feathers came in..... It'll be interesting to see what happens between him and the other roosters when the hormones kick in good and hard because he is really a big boy. Right now he is just hanging around the edge of the flock and staying around a few of the younger hens that we got along with him. I have to admit, he is a pretty boy and those slate blue legs! Amazing color.
He sure is a handsome roo I have a Bantam Lavender Orp hen and she s gorgeous too except now she is in molt.
