Apologies if a thread has been started and I missed it. I'd love to have some company as I wait.
Tomorrow I will be setting 12 Black Copper Marans, 12 Wheaten Marans, and 4-6 Cream Legbars. I am still waiting for the WMs and CLs to arrive, but have had the BCMs since yesterday and don't want to hold them too long.
Because the Legbars are the only ones I anticipate much success in candling and those were a fairly expensive treat, I am going to try my hardest to just stick these on the turner, keep humidity in the 40s, and not candle till lockdown.
What about y'all? What kind of eggs are you "sittin" on?
I have yet to properly introduce myself -- swear I'll get to it one day!
Briefly, for now:
I'm a (secular) homeschooling mother of four kids -- ages 14, 13, 10, and 6 months. I was born and raised in Madison, WI, but have somehow found myself living on a small Indian reservation at the northernmost tip of the state for the past 14 years. I'm relatively new to keeping chickens, but am greedily learning all I can, because I would love to find a way to make a little income doing something I love so much. (As a poet, my income is dismal -- thank goodness my husband has steady work as a nurse.)
Because I live on a reservation, I am able to live in an area that is populated enough to be called a neighborhood, but has zero laws governing the keeping of chickens -- or any livestock for that matter. Our neighbors were disappointed when we stopped allowing our birds complete free range, but it became necessary for various reasons.
Looking forward to knowing more of you. The people here have been so generous in sharing what they know with a newbie!
