Can you get pictures of this bird? I'm defiantly interesting in seeing what it looks like. It'd be a shame to have been given a cross breed when you paid for pure Geese.

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Well is my girl a mix? Can anyone answer this? I am curious to know for sure pop.gif

It seems more like a genetic fluke to me. If she was mixed I think you'd see more features vary from usual breed specimen.

I am planning to mate the two white China geese I got from Ideal last spring with the buff African gander I have. The hope being I get buff spotted China-type geese. I finally understand the genetics of buff (assuming it is sex linked). The cross I plan should produce buff geese at the rate of 50% of all females. What the ganderlings will look like? White? White is not albino, right? What is it?

I found this link: http://www.ansi.okstate.edu/breeds/poultry/geese/index.htm

It states: "The African should be of about the same size as the Embden, except in the case of the young goose, which may be a couple pounds lighter in weight. The African is the outcome of a cross between the Toulouse, and the Brown Chinese, taking some of the size and dewlap of the Toulouse, and somewhat of the upright carriage and 'knob' which is the ornamental head appendage of the Chinese. The African is said by some breeders to be a distinct breed imported from Africa, but the evidence of the cross is apparent."

I thought African geese were just 'super sized' brown China geese.  I can't think of any other examples of such seamless hybridization. The other crosses (mules, mule duck) are one-off.

So, the plot thickens.......

I mean all the geese from the buff African gander on any other goose should be buff.

Buff to white would give you Male Dilute Blue and Female Lilac Geese
