Need some advice guys. Our bloody dog just go hold of one of my chickens and ripped her whole wing off! Apart from the wing she seems ok if being without a wing is ok! Considering the time of night what do you suggest and wringing her neck is not an option!
I will take her to the vets tomorrow morning but do you think she can survive this? Is there anything I can do now for her? I am very squeamish about these sort of things!

All kind sensible advice appreciated x

There have been a few cases of birds losing thier wings here on BYC.

Get the wound clean and sterile as best you can, keep it mildly hydrated if you can, any dried blood will dry the wrapping to the skin and could be very painful trying to take it off for changing.  Keep her in a warm dim quiet place and get her lots of water to drink.  i would get some vitamins in her to help her cope with the stress.  I would recommend a vet as soon as possible unless you ar comfortable with working through the medical aspect on your own.

Here are some links to other cases.  Hope it helps!!  hugs.gif

the chicken can survive the wing issue and maybe even heal

but what you need to watch is shock

chickens can die of shock alone far more easier and quicker

i have had 2 loses from shock already
