First, watching a runner duck run is awesome. They can find their own food. They aren't like pekins in water. Mine haven't started laying but I heard their decent.

Its not as fat and slow as a pekin, but its not frail either. I want a mallard but I don't want a flying bird. The rouen is great for that.

They are my calmest birds and are easiest to catch. They eat less than Pekins. I heard they also lay well, but mine are younger.

Hello. I am new to BYC and wanted to introduce myself. I have one Maran rooster, 3 Ameracauna hens, 2 RIR hens, 2 Wyandotte hens and one Redstar hen. What other breeds would I enjoy? Also how can 8 hens go two days without laying any eggs, then only 4 lay the next day? Thanks

Hello and welcome to BYC Things like the weather, food, stress all sorts affect egg laying. I had 50 layers and some days I got 16 eggs, some days 40! I don't know much about breeds, but I hear Buff Orpingtons are lovely. Read the reviews, it'll give you an idea.
