Has anybody just unplugged the turner and left the eggs in it for lockdown? I am thinking that would be no different than placing in egg cartons and then I won't have to worry about the cartons being so much lower that the temperature needs to be adjusted? Any thought are welcome! Lockdown is Sunday so I need to figure it out soon :)

I would be afraid to just because I would be afraid the chicks would get stuck in any of the spaces between the rows on the turner or the empty egg holes. At least with the carton, it is almost like having a safety net.

This is my first time incubating, and I am waiting on Silkies, whose eggs are pretty small.

I have an LG. From experience, you need to take the turner out. Even after I took the turner out, the chicks would still hit their heads on the heating coils. If you leave the turner, the chicks will be that much closer to the coils and even the fan if you have one in there.

take the turner out and dont put them in cartons. I have two LGs and never have to adjust the temp at lockdown. I just lay the eggs on the bottom and they all hatch fine. I usually have a 98% hatch rate in my LGs. The eggs that dont hatch is because of a problem with the chick and not the bator. If u leave the turner or egg carton then u risk the chicks hitting the heating element and hurting them selves. Ive never had mine hit the heating element when nothing is in it
