I brought home three day old Blue Andalusians today and tucked them under my broody BO and she took them immediately. I'll never raise chicks in a brooder again. Broody hens are the way to go.
But now I'm rethinking my decision. They are listed as "noisy". How noisy is noisy? I have three BO's and a Jersey Giant. I think the JG is noisy. She runs her beak all day long. The BO's just mutter to themselves.
I live in the city and while I've had chickens for nearly two years and the neighbors seem to enjoy them. I am concerned that if I get a super noisy hen, that might change.
And I know that each hen can have a totally different personality. So it's difficult to say for certain. But I'm thinking I might run back to the feed store and pick up some Ameraucanas which is what I went to get in the first place and let the broody raise those too. Then I can decide later once they grow up, who to keep and who to sell.
