I don't think it looks bad!  I think you did a good job for a first-time construction project.  I hope you get to keep it.

I think it's wonderful.  I too, just made my Chicken Tractor as a 1st attempt at building anything with sides and a roof.  I'm STILL engineering it.  But I'm proud of what I did, despite the fact that my husband nearly went nuts when I was building it, and still gripes that it doesn't have wheels (I'm working on it!!!). 

 

If you are worried about the bottom, how about some tent stakes hooked onto zip tie loops, and dug into the ground? 

 

For your gate, google  "dead man" and "construction."  I know my dad made a "dead man" for my gate to my fence a long time ago to hike it up.

 

Be strong.  Our husbands don't know everything.  wink.png

It will also look better painted and sturdier with the L brackets.

I don't think it looks bad at all, I would add cross bracing to the run, You get smaller metal braces or us more 2x2's, that will tighten it right up, not sure if it is just sitting on the ground or not may be able to stake it down also. I would have used 2x4's my self.
