The worst thing you can do is run from him, that just encourages him to chase you. If you are determined to keep him don't show any fear, give him a boot if he gets close and ignore him. He must know that he is not the boss, YOU are.

It's like this:

Screaming + Running in a rooster's eyes = "Come and Get Me".

Ain't never heard a rooster crow

Never walked barefoot by the river

Felt the mud up between your toes

You never rolled in the hay
You never thrown it in four wheel
Climb up on here girl

                                                                                                                      Thx;)

The rooster thinks you are beneath him and a possible threat to his biddies. You need to man up and show him the true pecking order. Get some welding gloves and go in there. When he rushes you, pick him up and hold him upside down for a minute not long because you could choke him to death (that may be preferable but) then once he calms down a bit put him under your arm and carry him around with you. Do not let him go. When he calms down completely then you can put him down. You may have to repeat the process over a week but he will capitulate. If not then he goes to the soup pot.

It is best if you can handle them when they are chicks and they get the pecking order quickly that way. In your position now it is a bit harder. If he becomes recidivist then repeat the procedure or put him in the pot. I have aggressive roosters because my chickens go foraging and I want a strong rooster to protect them, but they all know who the top of the order is. And I don't let the kids in the coop with them until they (the kids) are big enough and understand how to assert their dominance over the roosters.

thx u guys.

 i have another up-date.

i did what all of u r telling me and i went outside with big sneakers, jeans, and a longsleeve sweatshirt so that if he attacked me i wouldnt really feel it against my skin. i went up to him and it was raining so he was a teeny tiny bit calmer(cuz when weather changes he's always more alert so he can look after the hens better) and  i picked him up and held him for like 5 minutes and surprisingly and happily he didnt do anything.so, i put him back down and left.

Then, later, i went back out and picked a huge ton of little red berries and put them in a little bowl and gave them to him when he was alone so they were all his. that didnt really do anything cuz later he kept on pecking my food through the wire:)

what the heck are you talking about when the weather changes he is calmer? if anything he's worse... he just doesnt attack as much when hes in the coop... y dont you do what j-sanders told u to do? it seems like it would work. Its pretty much what I do when he thinks hes boss. you should probably pick him up by urself to, not have me pick him up and hand him to you!

Weather changes might contribute to different behavior, animals are much more sensative to it then humans. Chickwit you really should go out and do this yourself, you are the one your rooster doesn't like, not Toro.

You can try holding him to make him submit or simply ignore him until he makes a move. Give him a good kick (don't be shy, give him a good kick!) and then go on ignoring him. If you run, or show fear it is only adding to his ego and mindset that he can control you.
