We purchased two chicks a few days ago. They are approximately 3 - 4 weeks old. -just purchased another yesterday that is a few days old. I was hoping to place them all in one brooder, however, the larger two were stepping all over the wee one. We immediately took her out and placed her in another brooder. She seems to be fine when she's with us, but chirps quite a bit when alone. My flock is currently at 10 (the rest are all between 17-18 weeks old). I now think that this little bitty thing needs a brooder mate. (am reeeeaaallly at my limit for my yard and need to cap) Would it be best to add one more so this little one isn't always a loner? -or, will they all eventually get along? I do let the other ones scratch around next to her while I hold her so they spend time together. We also have taken the 3-4 week olds out to scratch with the older flock, staying right with them for their safety. Thus far, my dominant banty roo seems quite protective of the young birds, and stays close by as if he's guarding them. It's a hoot. ![]()
