Gotta love deals

Gotta love it when you find deals.

I found a woman on craigslist that wanted to get rid of some old boards and some pallets. Well after my second trip she asks me if I wanted some ducks. I came away with 5 Pekin drakes and 5 hens. 1st morning had 3 eggs, one was very small and very thin shelled. The other 2 were tasty.

Get up this morning and I have 4 perfect eggs waiting for me. I assume that the one yesterday is from a hen that is just starting to lay. Never had ducks before but how can you turn down free food? Probably going to put 4 of the drakes in the freezer as these guys are full grown already. Well maybe 3 in the freezer and one in the oven ... LOL

It is so nice to know that I do not have to go buy eggs now. They free range so very little feed it needed.

Welcome to the Duck Forum big_smile.png

Nine beautiful Runners, four beautiful Buffs, thousands of beautiful memories and counting.

Looking for ducks?  Please consider adopting rescued ducks.  There are many places and people who do rescues, but we are not allowed to post the links due to BYC regs.  So fire up your web browsers and find some sweet, grateful duckies.

Thanks for the welcome. Just got off the phone with someone else and I am getting 10 more on Wednesday and a rooster. Apparently these are a mixed breed but they should cook just fine. Maybe a few more eggs too. Between the ducks, rabbits, chickens and pigs, I should have plenty of meat this year and the only thing I have really had to feed is the pig. Everything else has already been full grown.

Better watch it with those ducks, pretty soon you'll have a truck load of'em! Trust me, I know! Started out the first of this year with 3 ducks (Pair of Calls and one mixed drake), now I have 29 ducks, 8 geese picking up another pair of geese and more ducks tomorrow and I also have a couple eggs in the incubator! *Warning!*

Speaking of duck eggs, found one buried in a hole with grass over the top. Made a Black Berry Coffee Cake with it. It smells delicious!

HA HA! Yeah they can get addicting. Made a new pen for them yesterday and picked up some more supplies to make it even bigger then herded them down the driveway to their new home. Once they all get used to the new pen then I will let them free range. Hopefully get the pond fixed next year so that it holds water. Probably have to bring in some clay to make that happen or just let the straw rot and fill in all the holes. Have 2 large trees to take out first though.

In the mean time buy kiddie pools or stock tank or cement mixing bowls, it really doesn't matter to them as long as they can bathe and play in it.

Already got that covered. Got more pallets today and now the pen is 4x the size it was last night. Built the entire thing for $5. That was the cost of the wire to wire the pallets together... LOL
