First time chicken owner, just built my coop!!!

I had never thought about having chickens but one day I woke up with the idea in my mind.  The more research I did, the more I was hooked.  A few weeks later I started building my first coop.  It took about 2 weekends to finish and get the yard fenced in for the ladies "free range" pleasure.  The coop is 6x4' and 4' tall.  The hen house is 3X2'.  I am using coffee chaff bedding (free!!) and installed a swinging perch which the girls just love.  I only have two hens right now but I already have hatching fever :)

here are some photos of the finished product:

Helen: Daria, do you have to look at everything in such a negative light?

Daria: Could you possibly be referring to the harsh light of reality?

Really nicely done!  You actually gave me an idea to go find a tree stump for my run lol

~ Firefly Farms home of Miniature horses, 14 Muscovy ducks, 2 calls ducks ( 2 buff ducks joining this spring), 4 Ameraucana chickens(1/2 doz Silkies coming spring, darn chicken math finally got me) , Lionhead rabbits and your typical dogs, cats, fish, and parrots...

Thanks!!  I am pretty pleased with it so far.  Of course, I wish I had gone a few square feet bigger, and a foot taller (I think just about everyone feels that way when they are done with the build).

I just read a great article here on BYC about how important air flow is.  So my next project is to add some more ventilation to the hen house.

Nice job - I also love the swinging perch - may have to add that to our run once we finally complete! clap.gif

Sweet gig your chickens have!  They look happy!  I love the natural elements you put in too.  Very pretty coop and run!
