Hello all!
We are considering buying in a new development in murrieta, ca. Does anyone know the laws for backyard chicken in the area. Do any of you live in Murrieta?

I got on-line and looked at the ordinances, it looks as though you can have up to 30 per acre, with 1/2 acre being the smallest lot size you are allowed chickens on. HOWEVER, if you are moving into a development/new community, see what the restrictions are in the development. Even if the town allows chickens, the laws governing your community (HOA?) may not allow them, and they supersede the town zoning.
 
Thank so much! I giggled and didn't come up with much. 1/2 acre huh? Bummer! I don't think we will find anything with 1/2 acre or more. I was really looking forward to getting a couple. :(
 
Busy blone- where can I find info for other areas? Maybe we won't move to murrieta after all.

I'd start with googling either zoning or ordinances for the towns you're looking at. It can take a bit of research, but it's a good place to start. That's how I found the ones for Murietta. :)
 
I live in a track home in Murrieta, CA and I have been keeping two hens in my backyard for about six months. I love them and they have not been any trouble at all. They're quiet. They run around in my garden. I don't have a problem with flies as I keep everything well cared for. Well, someone just reported me and now I have to contact Animal Control to avoid a citation. Does anyone have any advice for me?

I am so sad. I love my birds. If you are wanting to stay in the area, you might consider Wildomar which is right next door and has better zoning laws.
 
sleeplessinsage-What ever happened with animal control and your chickens if you don't mind me asking?
I also live in a "track" area in Murrieta near the high school near old town on .33 of an acre and wanted to get 2 chickens to have in my fenced off garden area.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
