Found an odd egg this morning.... :S

I check several times a day for eggs just because I'm excited still at the new egg laying of 2 of my hens. I checked around 6 pm yesterday and there was nothing but when I went out this morning my GC had laid this one. It wasn't in the nest box like normal but on the bottom of the coop where she was scratching around.  Any thoughts on why the odd coloration? Is it possible its just that she's still new to laying? The coloration makes like a bullseye.

I'd guess it's an example of the odd things that can happen when they are new to laying.  But then, I've had some who lay spotted eggs, and one that always lays an egg with different shades on the shell, somewhat like yours.  They taste fine.

We have had chickens for years, and sometimes we get eggs like these too, the chickens are fine, and the eggs taste great too.  As they are young chickens I would'nt worry...I'm sure most people have the same - the trouble is because the eggs people buy from a store or supermaket  'look perfect' its because  they are selected, and all the eggs that are markedv or discoloured go to business for cooking....

Thanks for the information!! I appreciate it. I think the small eggs the girls are laying are great but I can't wait till they start laying larger "normal" sized eggs.

Having an Icelandic in the coop is like having a 2 year old in the house - they are into everything and don't follow the rules.

I have zero chicken willpower.

We get weird eggs too, although none as strange as that one.

Weird eggs are fun... plain white perfectly oval eggs are boring.

I have 1 Barred Rock, 1 Partridge Rock, 1 Gold Laced Wyandotte, 1 Dark Cornish, 2 Silver Pencil Rocks, 2 Buff Brahmas, 3 Cinnamon Queens, 14 Easter Eggers, and 20-something eggs in the incubator.
