Hello all

so the last couple days one of girls have been sleeping a lot like middle of the day just whenever i went and checked on her she was sleeping. so i made her a vet apoinment becasue i was scared there was somthing really wrong with her. the vet said she was molting and to feed her just cracked corn and to make sure i kept her away from the rest of the flock so they wouldnt pick on her. so i have her in a dog crate in my bedroom with a small heating pad for warmth and she has plenty of food and water. i gues what im getting at here i just need some re-asurance that im doing the right thing i dont wanna loose her .ive allready cried enough when she wasnt acting right....lol thanks for any advice.

I am sorry your hen is not feeling well.  Is the vet you went to an avain vet, familiar with chickens? I have never heard of isolating a molting hen and only feeding cracked corn.  If anything when my hens molt I up their nutrition with extra protien foods in addition to their regular feed.  I don't usually notice much change in their daily behavior either, not to the extent of sitting around sleeping all day.  So I suspect there could be some other issue with your hen.  Good luck with her, I hope you are able to figure it out.

The vet said he has dealt with chickens before..called around to like 5 vets and he is the only one who would look at her...he said she need more high energy food and less protein...he said she wasn't egg bound wich was my biggest fear and still is slighty...I. don't know what to do just scared that I will end up loosing her wich is gonna break my heart...
