X-Cel Duck&Goose feed

I am thinking about buying X-Cel duck goose feed and was wondering if any one here has used it or know anything about it? please tell me everything you know about this line of feed, if it is worth buying, if the animals seem to like, and if it has the proper nutrition that they need for breeding/non-breading season

Thanks

I used it for a short time. Not really sure about the nutrition, but found the amount of duck poop was substantially increased over my regular feed.  I only used it for a month. It definitely was less expensive, but the increase in waste seemed to be dramatic.  Not sure what ingredients may have caused it.

Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a posititve experience with it, as it is local.

I haven't been able to find anything online about their feeds - including a website.

FDA site has nothing in recent years, but this was interesting: http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/NewsEvents/FDAVeterinarianNewsletter/ucm103370.htm Does not pertain to duck feed regulations in relation to laws to prevent mad cow disease

That is weird that the amount of duck poop increased while feed them that, I have also done a lot of searching trying to find some info about them and nothing not even a website like you said, and because of that it makes me kinda hesitant to buy and feed them x-cel. What do you normally feed your ducks? and do they seem to good on it?

I have been feeding x-cel for a few months now.  I also feed Mazuri waterfowl.  I asked this same question awhile back and most of the responses I received were positive.  I don't think there's an X-cel website because it's a small, local mill.

All my ducks and geese will eat it.  One pair of ducks that were raised on and only ate Mazuri for a couple years have kind of turned their noses up at it, but they do eat it.  The other ducks and geese eat it just fine.

I have not had any health issues.  When there was the Mazuri Waterfowl recall a little while back, I was glad that I have been feeding a mixture of both.  None of my birds got sick (possibly because Mazuri wasn't their sole diet).

I still think Mazuri is a better quality feed, but the x-cel seems to be fine, too.  All my birds are outside on grass all day, too.  I figure they get a lot of healthy benefits out of the fresh green grass, weeds, bugs, and sunshine.

Ok I'm going to get feed tonight and I think I am going to switch to x-cel and see how they do on it, is it ok if the chickens eat some too as I keep all my birds together, the goose feed will be hanging on the floor and the chickens feed goes on the table out of reach from the ducks and geese. I would love to feed mazuri but $41 for a bag of matinence is a little out of my budget (by a little I mean a lot out of my budget)

Thanks

Yeah, I know - it's expensive.  It was fine when I just had a few ducks, but it adds up when you've have a lot of mouths to feed.  That's part of the reason why I started to add in the X-Cel.  Also, I like to have 2 different foods that they'll eat.

I went to go buy feed last night and my feed store does not carry x-cel duck&goose, so now I have to have it order it through them and waite two weeks! I might just feed the breeder water fowl mazuri during the breeding season and x-cel during the "off" season and the egg layers x-cel all year, will it upset thier system if I switch them off and on each season, or could I mix a little of each feed and then go to just one for that season and then do it again when I want to feed them the other kind? what do you pay for x-cel duck goose?

Thanks

You could do either way.  If you switch between the two, make sure you switch over gradually so it doesn't cause digestive upset.  I find it's easier to feed both at the same time, so they don't get used to one kind of feed and then not want to eat the other.  Do whatever works best for you, though.

I forget what I paid.  I bought some last week, but I forgot to look at the receipt.  I'll try to remember to check next time I get some.

Ok thanks! you do have a good point about them being picking and wanting to eat just the one feed, so I might try what you do first and then go from there

Thanks
