Hi from Northern Mass.

I'm Cherie and I got into chickens because I have a soft heart. We have a flock of Guinea's for organic pest control. Anyway I was on Craigs list last fall and saw a post for a flock of 7 hens destined for the stew pot if they didn't find a home that day. I didn't plan on having chickens but couldn't let these ladies end up that way. We got 2 Buff, 2 RIR a White Leghorn, possible Black Sex-Link and one that is supposed to be a Barred Rock but doesn't look like one. I posted her to the chicken Identifier forum. We named her Martha. The people were getting rid of them because they said they weren't laying well...they haven't stopped laying since we got them and we only got them to keep the Guinea's close to home.Who knew chickens could be so much fun.

Hi!

We have similar stories! My friend saw an add on craigs list for similar reason..destined for stew pot if home not found that day..we adopted 15 barred rocks (well at least 4 are i think, the others are black and 2 look like RIR) and one rooster. we have only had them a couple days but have laid a couple eggs already. so far they seem like lots of funny and easy to care for!
