Hi Babigyrl frow.gif

Home of the world's cutest dachshund, one crazy blue heeler, two cats,
one fat pony, and many (but not too many!) chickens

Can anyone tell me, how many are too many chickens?

This is the roo I am trying to rehome. Pretty head. Nice comb.

The color on his head is a dark gold color. On his wings its more of a rust.

This is the color coming out in tail.

Another picture.

Sweet boy which I got at CS. Should be a blue marans. I dont know genetics with the blue and was surprized to see the red show up.

Would make a great cross with EE's to make some pretty olive eggers.

Any takers? Please? lol

Well....I'm not sure when the last time I was here might be but we started school this week so I'll be MIA most of the time now.  Homeschooling is going well.  The oldest starts band at the middle school next week so that'll be interesting to see how we'll work that in.  At least it's in the morning.

We had our first loss yesterday to a hawk.  We let our chickens out of their pen(huuuuuge pen) just to see what they would do.  Then I ran to town for a couple hours.  Came back JUST as a hawk nabbed one of my cuckoo maran hens.  somad.gif  My mom had two maran hens as well so since her chickens aren't taking to them well she gave them to me.  One is in serious need of TLC because her other chickens literally ate it's back and the back of it's head!  I brought it home because I have a separate coop/run she can stay in until she's healed.  Poor little thing is a mess but she's doing okay.

Anyway...all is well here.  I didn't read so I hope everything is going well with you all too!

Ha ha ha! Yeah, I have that problem sometimes too. Once, when I was a kid, my parents got turkeys in the Spring to butcher out for Thanksgiving. Well, they all ended up with names and we kept them as pets until the day they died. So much for that idea. We've never been able to give away or get rid of any of our animals that get names. lol...

Years ago, before I got into poultry, a friend raised some turkey. He had three (3) big toms named Thanksgiving, Christmas and Lucky.  As it turned out, Lucky became Easter and we all dined well during the holidays. droolin.gif
