Michigan Thread - all are welcome!

I have two bantam SS roosters from two different sources, from last year and the year before. Every rooster I have hatched has been non-aggressive, and these two have coexisted without any sign of disagreement since last year. I culled one other cockerel end of the summer last year, and was totally wound up over having to bump off one of the others. But after I watched them for a few weeks I realized they were getting along just fine.

It's so unfortunate to have an aggressive rooster in a rare breed especially. But maybe you will be able to hatch a new one, hopefully with a better temperament (and white legs!)

When Joel was head roo everything was fine, Samuel minded his manners. Once Joel died Samuel started feeling his oats, started being a total jerk. I've read plenty of tales here about bad roosters who had good genes and were raised well, just one of those things.

Martha was digging for her chicks, who were clustered all around her when Samuel decided to assert his rights, grabbed Martha by the neck to mate. She was screaming, and the chicks were being trampled underfoot. Normal behavior? Maybe. He's still a jerk.

He's a total jerk!!!

I came close to throttling him. However, when I have to cull I don't want it to be in anger.

I sat with the flock for a couple hours after work, to watch over Martha and her babies. I decided I can do without a rooster until one grows up.

I drove into town to pick up chicks this morning! It's finally official!!!!

One of the Orpington chicks will run out to me when I open the door to the brooder. How am I supposed to get any of my chores done when these babies are so stinking cute?!
