Someone Complained, Chickens Must Go -- Joliet, IL

Thread Starter

So I guess we didn't read the ordinances thoroughly enough, or we didn't consider 3 hens "farm animals," but apparently, the City of Joliet does .... and they've informed us that we have to get rid of our girls or be fined.

I'd rather fight than roll over and give up, so I started a signon.org petition, and was hoping some of you (especially those of you in Illinois) would sign your name to it.

You can find the petition here: Allow Backyard Chickens in Joliet, IL.

Thanks for your help and let's keep up the good fight!

Now I cant get this off of my mind. wouldnt it be great if we could get together a bunch of illinois chicken owners and have a fund raiser type thing for you only instead if money we collect signatures. we could get together our eggs and give fresh eggs away and even make a big desert from eggs and take and give it to the city office. and say compliments of my chickens.  here is the definition of farm animal and if your chickens are pets they do not fit into the category!!!

livestock [ˈlaɪvˌstɒk]

n
(Life Sciences & Allied Applications / Agriculture) (functioning as singular or plural) cattle, horses, poultry, and similar animals kept for domestic use but not as pets, esp on a farm or ranch
