Everytime we have wild sideways rain etc ( I'm in Fl, it happens often...). Rain seems to come in from the top vent of my chimney. Is their something I can put on the vent up top to deflect rain better??

Hi, I wish we would get some of your rain. You should be able to put a shield over your chimney that has slanted louvers which angle down and out to keep out rain.

British homes used to have the same problem. It was most unpleasant on a wet, windy and cold Winter's evening! Nowadays, chimneys are usually metal lined with a cowling mounted on top. There are various types designed to cope with wind and rain together. I assume that you can get the same where you are.

I'm out of date on this because I didn't have a chimney fro years in England and we don't even have heating here. However, this is the sort of thing I mean:

We have a chimney but it is only for decoration. We could use it but don't.

We have a large rectangular cover on our fireplace. We take it off spring to fall so the swifts can use that chimney.  The one for our wood stove we leave on year round.  Both of these covers have screening around the sides to keep birds (other than swifts) from getting trapped in the chimney.  On the Oregon coast where it rains sideways much of the winter people use chimney covers that can rotate with the wind direction.  They are sort of shaped like quail top notches.  Depending on the firewood you use keep an eye on the screening, it can soot up and effect how the chimney will draft.
