Settin Eggz Aug. 12th-18th!!

I am home for this one but I feel it would've been better if I weren't. I was so close to helping out an egg that had pipped with no progress for over 24hrs but by the time i went to bed it was the first one to hatch along with another.

So far six have hatched and a bunch more have pipped. I think the thermostat incident slowed the hatch down, I'm glad it didn't spoil it completely.

on second thought, the thermostat incident should've sped up the hatch. it did take longer to turn the eggs with this hatch as we had to turn 4 egg cartons with the incubator open. I wonder if the all those times the temp dropped slowed them down?

Just remember that mama hen gets off her eggs everyday to go do her thing. So I don't think it mattered.

Okay so this hatch was a big disappointment for me. Out of 15 Heritage RIR eggs I only got one chick but she is a beauty. I am calling her a she because she does have the dark line along the back of her head. Here are a few pics of her at 5 days old.

Well, something went wrong in the last few days for me. I do have 12 that hatched successfully but another 20 or so eggs that all seem to have drowned. I say drowned because it seemed that the inner membrane of some of the eggs i opened were full of liquid but all had fully developed chicks. I did set my dehumidifier higher this time around after reading that the humidity inside the incubator was probably way lower than outside humidity. I did leave some eggs inside in case not all died. tomorrow or the day after will be the deadline... :(
