When do Maran's typically lay?

Luna was born/hatched early March, maybe around the 9th. I can't remember the exact date. She is cranky, going in and out the nest box for weeks, taking the light brahma with her, but no egg. She squatted 2 weeks ago, but just twice. Maybe she's not that submissive to me like the others. She allows me to pick her up and likes to sit on my lap.

I'm waiting very impatiently. I'm dying to see her egg color! I've been wanting a maran since last year! She's 20-21 weeks old.

Not the greatest shot, but her comb and wattles are big, nice and red.

How can I convince her to lay????

I too am doing the wait with my Marans and cannot wait to see the eggs! My two have looked ready for weeks. Their combs are in, big wattles, squat when you get anywhere near them. But alas, no eggs! Mine were born on March 2nd, so when I see one yours should be along soon, maybe?

yes, from my experience, about 2-3 weeks, but it could be earlier.

Well, mine are 22 weeks this Friday, so I must be close. I did find an odd little egg someone laid while they were drinking water (right in the middle of their run!) that was a little dark, but it had light spots, dark spots and was overall rather strange. So maybe that was one of them? hu.gif

My Black Copper Marans hen laid her first egg at about 18 or 19 weeks old - the EXACT same day as my Black Ameracauna!

I was so surprised but thrilled beyond belief to see one blue and one dark brown egg in the next box!

Yours should be laying very soon! :D
