assisted hatch, but six chicks out of six! touching wood, crossing everything etc.

this morning, after mine were going over their due date had discovered they were suffering from 'shrink wrapping' and the eggs had come from a mother with hypercalecimia [made the shell almost solid impossible for a chick to break properly let alone us].

have done a lot of research on assisting, knew of the dangers and also watched a number of videos to get a fair idea.

mine were not going to be able to come out unaided,so had to assist each one completely-and now, have got six chirpy, intrested healthy looking but understandably knackered chicks in the incubator.wee.gif

the shrink wrapping is fault of mine as its caused by not high enough humidity, had bought the eggs off a seller on ebay though woud certainly recommend them to UK users as the fertility rate is clearly excelent.

here are some photos of them taken just before writing this post-they are cochins, which are very rare over here-

very sorry to users who have lost their chicks this week ,dont lose hope or carry on blaming self-learn from any incubation mistakes and will soon be back building a new chicken family.

here-

http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/too_hoots_nurseries/?_trksid=p4340.l2559

its bids rather than buy it now that she offers, but even if dont win she relists quickly-has a lot of eggs.

they are sent out in a very cushioning polystyrene case designed for carrying eggs so they are well padded; shoud see them through from yorkshire to london, assuming are interested in one of the breeds she sells that is. :P
