rescued ducks and I can't keep them

Hi there.

At the beginning of the summer I rescued some ducks from a college student who bought them for Easter and was keeping them in a bathtub. I toyed with the idea of keeping them, but they are not legal in my town, and it is a male-female pair, so I have been trying to find them a good home all summer long. I have had no luck. I don't know anybody who keeps ducks or anybody who wants any. I have read that I can't just let them go, and I really don't know what to do with them. Does anybody have any ideas? I have found a few links to rescue groups, but there are none anywhere near me. I am willing to drive a few hours to find a good home for them. We live in east Alabama - about two hours from Atlanta.

They are mallards - a male and female. (I tried posting to the buy-sell-trade forum, but for some reason I can't, even though I have enough posts).

Does anybody have any leads on where/how I might be able to find a home for them?

Thanks!

Did you check if Atlanta had any rescue facilities? or maybe post an ad on Craigs list telling it just as you did here someone may answer.

There is one in Atlanta listed in an old post here, but their web site says that they are a wildlife rehab place, not a home for ducks. I am still going to call them tomorrow anyway. I was kinda trying to avoid craigslist, because I really want them to end up in a good home, but I will try it if I get more desperate. I did find a few people on BYC that are from here that have ducks, so I sent them messages asking them if they want two more. Hopefully I will have some luck with them.

Have you tried posting in the thread for your state (here on BYC)?

I agree, I've had good luck finding homes for rescued ducks in my local meetup thread.

Do post in the Alabama thread here http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/29002/alabama/2520#post_9465389

I usually get responces to my posts.  You may need to just put them on craigslist.  If they were a breed I was interested in I'd take them but they would be the smallest thing in the coop here and I don't want muscovy cross mules.

Do try to find them a home and call the rehab place.  IF you don't have any luck let me know.  I'm 30 minutes south of Huntsville.  But I raise my animals for food and eggs not as pets though they are treated very well.  Just to let you know.  Good luck finding someone.

No problem.  I saw you posted there and already had some replies.  I'm glad that you'll be able to find them a home.
