I am new to quail and I am wondering what I have I dont know how to tell males from females please help

I have 2 that look like this

I have 1 like this I bought them young so the guy I got them from couldnt tell me what they where thanks for your help

They are king quails and the top one is a female and the bottom a male. I hope this helps smile.png

Thanks that helps a lot I was told that they were cornix quail

They are coturnix quail.  The top one is a female Pharaoh (normal brown markings) and the bottom is a Tibetan (dark brown color).  You cannot sex the Tibetan by its feathers.  You must vent sex or wait to see if it crows or lays an egg.

They are coturnix. "king" quail is a term used mostly for buttons or cbbq, which these are not... I think it's a Australia thing. Good luck with your birds. Bill

In Aus and that is what we call those type of quails smile.png

before I left for work (where I am now) I went and checked on my quail and I found my first egg
