I wouldn't work at that place for no amount of money. 

I do know some hatchery owners and I will let you know that most all hatcheries are the same in two ways;

--They breed for quantity and not quality 

-- They use any extra fowl hatched as "packing peanuts", "rare breed" give a ways and free chicks.

 

Do a search on here for, "what is my free rare chick" and see how many are EE's and other non-rare breeds.  I think you will find 99% of them are no where rare.

5 1/2 weeks.  Strong like you wouldn't believe.  Getting used to being held though.  

 

He has a bunch of feathers that are just now developing on his wings.  I will post another photo in a day or two.

He's a grey broiler. I have some just like him. Mine are single comb and when they were small chicks they all had light colored legs, but as they got older the leg colors ranged from yellow to almost black. In weight they are halfway between fast growing broilers and regular heavy breeds. These are approximately 3 months old and weigh eight pounds this is a young rooster. We had gotten 50 of them for meat birds, they are more of a free range type of broiler.

The consensus seems to be black sex link rooster.  I will post some additional photos as he grows.  There has been no doubt in my mind that he was a rooster from the day he arrived.  Thank you for showing me the finer points of barred breeds.

Looks "spot on".   I may range him a bit here in the suburbs.  My wife won't let me eat him though.

There was a post saying that he could be a grey broiler.  I would like to know if he is or not, because I am about to give him to a friend who will raise him out for a flock of girls to call his own.  If he is a broiler, is that going to cause problems with his frame when he is older?

 

Almost everyone else though Marans roo.  He is 12 weeks and so are the other girls (and a glw boy).

According to the pictures his legs look like they're staying white, so he could possibly be a marans although he looks a bit too heavy set to be a marans.
