Mummy berry and chickens

We have a blueberry patch out here in Duvall, which means we also get mummy berry.  It really took over this last season, and we are working to get it cleaned out but, of course, a bunch fall on the ground and perpetuate the problem.  My question is:

Can I set out my 15 free-rangers in the patch and let them hoover the place?  I can't find any info on whether or not the mummy berry is safe for animals to eat. TIA!

Animals don't typically gorge themselves on poisonous edibles.  I'm not familiar with mummy berries.  Can humans safely eat them?  If they are toxic, your chickens are not likely to more than one.  My chickens love berries.  We have rasbberries, blackberries, and a currant bush that they love.  They also love the berries on our honeysucle bushes that are too bitter for human taste buds.  I say give it a try while you're out in your garden and just watch them.  Chickens are much smarter than most people give them credit for.  In my experience, chickens are smarter than most people... period.

mummy berries are definitely not considered edible for people.

Thanks, Imp!

I am glad that it wasn't just me who couldn't find much.  Thanks for the link to the article, I think we're going to try it.

Had a late thought.

You could call the Chimicum farmstand and ask if they have any info.
