Hi, I am just now entertaining the idea of having chickens and a coop. I need to learn more though. This looks like a great place to start.

These are my first chickens, gifts from a daughter for Christmas. Once they started laying, it's rare to have a day without one egg from each hen. They come when I call them, stay close to the...

Yes it's a GREAT place to start :) & STAY! First u obviously needa decide your main goal -- Are you wanting them for pets/entertainment?, egg production?, breeding, showing, etc.? Then u can go to this page http://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds, it kinda helps u figure out what breeds u might want, unless u already had some in mind
. But first, obviously you'll need to decide how many chickens you want? Then you could start building or buying a coop that fits your # of chicks/chickens. But yea, start w/the chicken breed page or this page http://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops that should get you started a little bit. There's alot of nice ppl here that absolutely LOVE our chickens!!!
so don't be afraid to ask anything :)
