Sick RIR Chickens

Thread Starter

I have 2 -20 wk old RIR  and 1 -16 wk ..last week I lost one of the 16 wk and I am still not sure what happened

Current Symptoms are:  not active, not leaving the coup staying on the roost most of the day, in the evening they do come out to eat and drink

brown runny poo and lots of it!

I do hear sneezing of coughing - not sure which

sometimes snotty nose

appear to be loosing weight

The remaining three have symptoms similar to the symptoms of the chick that died last week with a few exceptions  heads being tucked in to the neck and labored breathing, she was very listless ...  however the remaining chickens  dont seem to have trouble breathing but do make the sneezing/coughing sound.  I know they were exposed to the deceased chicken and am curious if  they have the same thing

I have given acv in the water, ivermectin wormer (past form, peas size orally) dusted for mites/lice with a garden duster and continue to keep a close eye, I know something isnt right just not sure what to do next

Hi there,

Some of the symptoms sound like worms to me. The oily feathers tell me that but it could also be caused by mite.

Noticed any other symptoms? gurgling, gasping, vulgar smell in breath?

"sneezing coughing snotty nose" = probable respiratory infection. Any new chickens introduced recently? Any odor around the head? Swollen eyes?
