it was pretty thick with weeds and briars. i'm sure there were wild rabbits and other animals in the briar patch. any worries about mites etc when i put the chickens in the new run? (they are 3 weeks old right now)

thx andy

I would guess that they will do a great job keeping the brush from growing back.  And unless there was a thick population of some sort of wild bird, I wouldn't worry too much about them 'catching' anything.  Of course, it's a good idea to check them now and then anyway for any 'tiny livestock' and any other problems that may be coming up.

Would love to see picts of the new run.

heres the run being built. the coop will be on  the outside with a wired in walkway going into the run. (the coop has to be turned around)the coop tops open so we can reach in and get the eggs.this is half of the run when finished. i'm gonna have a coop on each end. the runs will have a door between them so i can separate the chickens if need be. this lot was over my head with briars and weeds. (6') the run is 8x12 and 8x24 when i add the other side. with two coops will the birds spread out and go to both coops if i leave the middle open, or will they all go into one coop?

I built another coop when I added to my flock, so that there would be plenty of space for everyone.  They all moved into the same coop.

Go figure.
