Big Bully

Thread Starter

One of our four Pekings (appropriately named The Executioner) is bullying another one named Rubber. He only picks on him and not the other two. He chases him around the yard when they are out and even when they are in their fenced-in pen, once he catches Rubber he bites and pulls his feathers and forces him down. We always try to get in between them and sternly tell Ex "NO!" but then he just turns around and does it again.
Ex has been aggressive for awhile now, when we first noticed it he would do it occasionally but it has gotten worse and he is constantly after him. Is there anything we can do to stop it? Im afraid Ex is going to injur Rubber.
Thanks

Or Maybe kill him, believe me they can, I had a Muscovy drake that killed another one, I would either rehome the bully or have separate pens and coops, some drakes can tolerate other drakes in their flock some can't and sounds like EX can't and is making Rubbers life H. You can do something about it. welcome-byc.gif

Miss Lydia gives good advice.

Friends are the family you make for yourself.
There are no coincidences- only providences.

x2

Ex is showing his dominance (which is natural) but the fact you say it is increasing suggests to me that this is a personality thing and once you have an aggressive drake, it is unlikely to have a personality change.

Are all four of your pekins male?

I would really hate to give Ex up....as much as he is a bully, the thought of that breaks my heart too. sad.png

If you don't want to rehome him, and i don't blame  you, I'd give him his own area and possibly get two girls for company.  You would have to get at least two to keep the girls from being over bred.

I understand what your saying, but you have to think of your poor drake thats taking the brunt of EX's meaness what kind of life does he have?

Totally understand your dilema, it's a toughie.

However, when we take on the responsibility of animals, there are times where the animals welfare has to take a priority over our own emotions.  Just as *you* don't want to feel emotionally hurt by making a tough decision, I'm sure if you asked Rubbers, he wouldn't want to be physically hurt by Ex. either.
