who owns one? i do and i love her

for those of you who don't know the breed, they are like a smaller,better laying,clean legged,rose combed
light brahma. they also do have enough flesh for a meal.

Ooh! Really cute chick! You've got me hooked, I'll order those when I buy chicks in the spring. I have two silver-laced wyadottes (Debrah and Wynona) that are awesome! Do they have the same mannerisms as other Wyandottes and do they often become broody?

They have great personalities, very friendly and docile, and are excellent layers.

RoosterAddict99, one of our hens did become broody this spring, she was almost a year old at the time. We broke her of it after about 10 days, kept her next box blocked and made her stay outside the coop all day.

Most hatchery run Columbian Wyandottes run small compared to APA. They should be good sized birds when full grown like the ones you see here.


I have raised this line of standard Columbian Wyandottes for over 30 years. They are wonderful birds to have as layers, meat, show. etc. These are not your usual hatchery run type of Columbians.
 
It depends on which line I am working with. My usual male size is between youmg males 7-9 older males 8-10 pounds average breeder is about 9 pounds. Females range from 6-8 but usually average 7. Pullets run 5 to 6.5 pounds as a rule. I rarely put a female in my breeding pens that does not weigh about 7. Some say that is to big but if you look at any of the commercial birds they have zip type and weight is way small.


This is a picture of my pullets from last year...plus one blue copper marans. I try to keep at least 5-8 females from each breeding pen and I run at least 5 pens per breed.

*** you should know chickens do not really like to pose so getting a good picture of them is really hard. The picture below is a little closer but does not really do them justice.



Here are two pictures of some males I used two years ago...I tend to run a better female line than male but the males are really not that bad.
