Feed Questions

Hello,

I have a ? about feed. I have 6 chickens that are 15 weeks old and they are still on chick crumbles. I have 9 baby chicks that are 2 weeks old. when it comes time to put the 9 chicks(chickens) in with the 6 chickens the 9 are still going to have to eat chick crumbles. The ? i have is it ok for the 6 chickens that will be laying eggs eat chick crumbles. And what can i add to the 6 chickens diet to keep them laying eggs. Thanks for your imput.

Put oyster shells or calcium supplement in a side feeding dish, of some kind.  The layers will pick at the calcium rich oyster shell supplement, while the little chicks won't have much interest as their bodies aren't craving the calcium.

 

You can feed everyone the same feed.  Non medicated chick starter, grower, flock raiser, all-flock, etc.   Just don't feed anyone Layer as the younger ones should not have Layer, as it can damage their renal systems.   Layer is just Grower with added calcium.  It isn't necessary at all if shells are provided on the side.
