4 Weeks Old Today!

Well my dad and I finished the coop enough to move our chicks in the coop! It's beyond hot in Texas, and we figured they would be a lot happier in the coop than our make shift brooder in the shop... Now I know when you move chicks in you want to keep them locked up for a week or so to get them used to that "being home." My question is there anything special to do like close up windows? Last night was night one in their big girl home and all are very happy as far as I can tell!

Our skittish girls got hot after finally catching them to move them...

The chicken door hole they are by has wire over it so they can't get out and the nest boxes are covered so they cant get in them.

Secure for now, just need to finished doors, windows, and some vents at the top. (Has to wait for next weekend since my daddy is gone during the week for work.)

I live in Texas also and can't recomend to lock you girls inside. You are going to have baked chicken. I would give them access to their run also. Just go out for a few nights and put them in the coop after dark. Might put a small light in there to encourage them to go in. Make sure they have plenty of water available to them.
