Is a Perch a Good Idea?

We have two four day old chicks who just LOVE to perch on anything they can grab their feet on. We were going to buy one of those little swinging perches for birds at Petland, good idea?

Mine were not too good at perching when they were small. They managed to fall off a 2x3 when they would fall asleep. I saw a post the other day someone bought a ladder for parrots. Looked like it might be good. A little larger diameter than the normal parakeet/canary stuff. I don't think a chickens feet will grasp small things as good as they are ground dwelling birds. There feet are for walking not grabbing small branches.

Okay thanks smile.png I'll try a ladder, we already tied a cd to the top so they could play with it, and a shell for fun. They tried to eat the dust out of the sandbox idunno.gif So we took that out (is it okay to eat bluecloud dust?) we have chinchillas so that's why we have it.

Not sure what the Blue Cloud dust is made of. Chickens do love to dust bathe in sand. They might have been trying to find grit in the dust. They won't need grit till they start eating things other than their starter feed though. Most parakeet grit I've seen has calcium in it which young chicks should not have. There is chick grit available.

Okay thanks smile.png The dust isn't really gritty though, it's mainly just dust.
