surgery today- Ruthie is gone. - Page 3

Wow, what a great sounding vet! I wish you and Ruthie all the best! (I bet her practice dust bath was adorable) I understand the sentiment as I've been there myself, but from an onlooker's perspective I urge you to NOT question your decision, regardless of the outcome. You are so motivated by love and respect for Ruthie's quality of life and you have been so proactive in giving her the best shot at a great life and that is true guardianship.

So Ruth died today during surgery. I knew it was possible, but it still just plain sucks.

The vet says there was something developmentally wrong with her. She had no abdominal muscles where the hernia was. Her heart stopped during surgery right before they started to stitch her up. He suspects she may have had heart trouble as well.

She was so spunky and full of life today....the best I've seen her. The chicks have started chest bumping and playing pecking order games. She got a few chest bumps in there, too. We had some good snuggling on the way to her appointment.

I had a really bad feeling about this today, I had written it off as nerves...but maybe it was something more.

Ruthie was a sweet little girl, she put up with so much, and for the two short weeks that she was alive, I loved her.

Thank you all for your support.

It's so sad that you lost Ruth. I only just now found your thread but, as you and others have stated, it will help other in the future with the same problem. I know that I will remember it.

Oh Andrea - I'm so very sorry!  I know how attached you felt to this little one, and how difficult of a decision it was to proceed with surgery.  Bless you for doing so much for her...you know, I always try to find the silver lining, and I think in this situation, since you didn't feel you could put her down, maybe her dying in surgery was for the best...she will not suffer in the future, and it sounds like she very well would have.  Still, that doens't make it any easier, I know.  Again, so very, very sorry.  hugs.gif Thank you for opening your heart & sharing the journey about Ruthie with us all.
