This morning my husband and son were startled to hear a "weird" sound ( like crowing, sort of)come from our Sex link, Peaches...her/his? comb has grown larger than my other hens ( they

are all 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 mos old now, and I know some hens do have larger combs. I am praying Peaches is a hen because she/he is an awesome and very smart chicken and I'll have to give her/him back if it's true. We cannot have a roo here where we live...

So, here are a couple of pics of Peaches, what do you think? The tail feathers are not very long either....

x2 My first thought was female due to the coloring, but those are saddle feathers coming in, and even for a fast maturing sex link that's too much comb at that age. It looks like a second generation sex link, which is no longer a sex link but a mutt. Sorry.

Well, the kittens aren't so cute anymore and the easter egger cockerels are in the freezer. Plus, I think offering them as "prizes" scared folks off! So, I'm still posting quotes, if you know it let me know. I'm very enamored of this new one, it may hang around for a while!

Exactly what I was thinking.  Someone bred male and female sex links together thinking that they would get sex-linked babies but it doesn't work that way.

Exactly what I thought also.  Did you buy them from a reputable hatchery or some guy/gal selling chickens?

This chicken came from a reputable lady who had ordered them and hoped to start raising them...she is also NPIP certified .  They are very knowledgeable and helpful but unfortunatley, I have not had good luck with her chicks. Perhaps most of it being my fault though...anyway..I hate to give " Petey" up because he is smart and a good looking chicken, but, I cannot keep him. She will take him back if I ask.

Thanks for all the opinions, I'm afraid you all are right !
