Well my little silkie baby Butter got moved from the Brinsea mini thats she hatched in and lived in since as an only child she hatched Friday morning and has been in there this whole time. Well I decided to night That 99.5 will probly get uncomfetble for her soon and I wanted to put my eggs in there anyways for hatching so I switched her out . Well I never realized how much the all plastic of the brinsea muffles peeping but IM ready to scream .. PEEP peep PEEP peep PEEP peep PEEP peep PEEP peep PEEP peep PEEP peep PEEP Peep ... I fed her about 25 minutes ago and it has been a constant peeping ever since I put her back down afterwards.

Any Ideas on hushing her up she is warm she is full Im looking for a stuffy for her but so far no luck. Im gonna go crazy here. She likes being bundled up real snug like a newborn human but she getts poo up her back and on her legs and stuff when I do that .

1000 Butter ... The worlds Loudest Wait I mean Cutest chick duc.gif

Update .. An hour and ten minutes after she started peeping like a mad thing she has fallen asleep.

She's adorable! love.gif I hang a feather duster in the brooder for my small chicks to crawl under. That usually keeps them happy. And quiet!

I know!!!! Its worse than listening to a kid say "Mom MOM mom mom MOM mom MOM!!!!!!"

I am a Maine farm girl! 2 horses, 2 dogs, 2 beef calves, 2 cats, a 75 gal fish tank, a Ball python, numerous barnyard banties and 9 EE's and three Muscovy ducks. Holy cow sounds like alot to see it written out!! :)

She needs to kept at about 90-95 degrees till about a week old then drop that about 5-7 degrees per week. I have heard that silkies develop slower than regular chicks so someone with more experience with silkies might want to correct that. A stuffed animal, unbreakable mirror, or the feather duster works for lonely chicks. On your "sweater" you might try to wrap her eithout covering her bottom so the poop doesn't stick.

I'm not an expert,"ex" is a has been and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure!

The mirror is a good idea. I keep one in my brooder, and it seems to help lone chicks feel not so alone. She's peeping because you're her buddy, and when you leave she's going "wait, come back, take me with you"! You could always buy her a friend if your TSC or a local breeder has babies. I have 5 Silkie chicks in my brooder, and there's still one in there that peeps and peeps for me (it was the first to hatch, and was alone for a day so I guess it got attached to me), but its getting better about hanging with its chicken friends. Good luck!

a baby chick in the alone in the wild is going to last all of 20 seconds.  That noise is her instinct to stay alive so of course she is going to make a racket.     Get a mirror for her, that might help.  Even a stuffed animal or a ticking clock wrapped in a blanket might work.

All you have to do is cuddle her in your hands, completely cover the head and hold. Your hands will warm the chick and it will fall asleep. Just like any newborn, the instinct to huddle under the mama. I use a soft thick towel and wrap the chick, slip your hand out and press down outside the towel..when it stops moving around you can slowly sneak away. As long as its warm it will sleep all night. For daytime, good luck..it needs companionship. :-)
