i read in a post here about using general cure to combat blackhead  in turkeys my concern is that chickens drink the water also and have noticed a lot of meds for state not for use on laying hens and i am wondering if it is safe to use around them, the active ingredients are250mg of metroindazole and75 mg of praziquantel. i know these are safe for turkeys but what about laying hens?

5 RI reds, 2 NH reds, 2 Plymouth barred rocks, 2 Wyandottes  and Annie,10 yr old black lab, Jack, 3yr old yellow lab, Christmas, 3 month old  little mutt, Sally and Scooter 3 month old black kittens

My avian vet said to use metronidazole at the rate of 60 mg per kg and fenbendazole for histomoniasis. She made promise that I would never eat my pets or their eggs as metronidazole has been banned for use in food animals... I've used it in turkeys, peafowl, chickens and quail for histomoniasis. From what I've learned, the most effective wormer for histomoniasis is Fenbendazole. I thought praziquantel was for tapeworms?

Mine always get dosed orally to ensure proper dosing and only when they look sick. When in doubt, consult you veterinarian. :-)
