Most EEs (like Ameraucanas) have pea combs. From what you are describing, your EE has a pea comb. As she gets closer to laying, it will probably get a bit larger and redder.

In EEs, the gene for pea combs is very near the gene for blue eggs, and there is a high probability that they get inherited together. So the chances are increased for blue/green eggs if your girl has a pea comb. If she also has a brown egg gene, the blue egg will be coated with brown and create green or khaki eggs. Since EEs are interbred with other types, you can not be sure of the outcome until you see the egg.

This shows a pea comb when my hatchery EE was 8 weeks old.

Comb is larger and redder now. You can kind of see it here.

No doubt!  Sugar would have to be latest blooming bloomer in EE history if she were a cockerel!

Here was my EE boy at 13 weeks. The long, bright orange feathers above his tail are his very masculine saddle feathers. Also, notice his big red pea comb. It's larger at 13 weeks than Sugar's comb at 5+ months.

Honk, bawk, cluck, hurrrr, squawk, aaawk, bokabokabagoook!  Some quiet, some loud, some you'd wish you could muzzle! I've got 11 chickens of ten different breeds. My two youngest just left the the peeping stage and are kind of moaning now, awrrrrr.

As long as no one cock-a-doodle-doos, we're good! The coop is way to close to the house!

I will be curious to see what color egg Sugar lays. Hope you can post pics!
